SCIoI 3 - Shepherding Behavior in predator-prey interactions

This project is in collaboration with the research cluster "Science of Intelligence" (SCIoI) based in Berlin. Prof. Heiko Hamann is serving as external PI in several internal projects of the SCIoI.

Main ideas of this project:

  • shepherding and predator-prey behaviors can be similar
  • coupled approach: how do animals do it how can intelligent robots do it?

We will use data from observations of open-ocean predators, such as striped marlin (Kajikia audax), sailfish (Istiophorus platypterus), sealions (Zalophus californianus), to study and implement shepherding behaviors on robot swarms.

This project is done in close collaboration with:
Prof. Dr. Jens Krause, Leibniz Institute for Freshwater Ecology Berlin
Dr. Pawel Romanczuk, Humboldt Universität zu Berlin
Prof. Dr. Henning Sprekeler and Dr. Pia Bideau, Technical Unviersity Berlin
